MORE volunteers are needed to help at Portsmouth’s superhospital.

The League of Friends at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, is appealing for more people to help run their charity shop, take refreshment trolleys around the wards, and help comfort and talk to patients who have no visitors. There are 33 people who volunteer with the League of Friends, but many more are needed, says chairwoman Mary Sheppard.

She said: ‘We desperately need more people. There are many more wards that would like us to visit with the trolley, and lots of patients we can’t get to.

‘Anyone of any age can join us, we have people from 16 to 50 and above.

‘And you can give up as little or as much time as you want, once a week or once a month even.’
