A SPECIALIST service that transports blood, samples and milk to and from hospitals has thanked people for supporting its service.
Serv Hampshire, which has now changed its name to Serv Wessex, is run by a team of volunteer bikers and drivers, who deliver vital items to and from hospitals in the south east.
Members of the public gave £288.42 to the charity during a street collection, which was held in West Street, Fareham.
Steve Morton, publicity officer, said: ‘This is a great result for us and will help us pay the running costs of our blood bike and blood van.
‘At a time when our services are needed more frequently by hospitals, our fundraising efforts are essential to help us to save lives and help others.’
The local branch of the national charity was created two years ago.
Last year between February and December, the service attended 316 calls,
