AN AWARD has been given to Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust for its work improving patient care.

The trust, which runs Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, won the Health Service Journal award for using the VitalPac system, which recognises patient deterioration and allows staff to respond immediately.

The software guides nurses through the process of recording vital signs before calculating an early warning score. VitalPacs have been used at QA since 2009 and are now used by 45 other health services.
