WOMEN who have set themselves a New Year’s resolution to get fit and lose weight have the perfect opportunity to work off their holiday indulgences.

A new ladies-only beginners’ running group is starting in Horndean and Petersfield.

The 10-week programmes, held in Petersfield at the Taro Leisure Centre, and in Horndean at Merchistoun Hall, are supported by East Hampshire District Council.

Louise Christie, the council’s active lifestyle co-ordinator, said: ‘This will be the seventh beginners’ group in Petersfield and the fourth in Horndean since its launch.

‘Each time these new, instructor-led groups are advertised there is great demand for them.

‘It shows that many women would like to go running but simply don’t have the confidence to go on their own.

‘Running is not only a great way to get fit and lose weight, but is also a nice way to meet other women with the same interest.’

Groups are managed by qualified coaches Helen Murphy, Rebekah Handford and Tiffany Eneas.

Helen said: ‘No special kit is needed, and no Lycra if you’d prefer not to wear it!’
