Learn how to prevent stroke at church fair

Residents in south east ‘in hibernation’

Have your say

TODAY is your chance to find out how to prevent stroke, at the Portsmouth Community Fair.

Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Lynne Stagg will join Havant and Portsmouth Stroke Clubs, Age UK and Diabetes UK at St Jude’s Church, Southsea.

There will be free blood pressure checks, information and advice, face-painting, a bouncy castle, a choir, prize raffle and refreshments.

Katherine Staley from the Stroke Association said there are 4,000 stroke survivors in the city.

She added: ‘We believe that many strokes can and should be prevented.

‘High blood pressure is the single biggest risk factor for stroke.

We’re offering the chance to find out if you are at risk and information about the ways in which you can prevent a stroke in the future.

‘This Community Fair will celebrate the recoveries people can make with the right support and offer the chance to find out what is available for you or someone you know.’

The event is from 11am to 3pm.
