PEOPLE with a learning disability have been taking part in a series of sailing boat challenges and gaining their first experiences of life on the waves.

Taking place at Gunwharf Quays Marina, Mencap’s Sailing Day Team Challenge involved trips on both certified sailing yachts and fully accessible nine-metre long catamaran powerboats.

The event was made possible by Mencap’s Looking Beyond The Label charity partnership with Land Securities, which owns Gunwharf Quays.

The newfound sailors each received a certificate and gift for taking part.

The campaign helps to change the negative perceptions that sometimes exist towards people with a learning disability.
