Make a resolution to donate blood

Advice from Gosport GP to collect repeat prescriptions before Easter break

PEOPLE from the Portsmouth area are being asked to consider saving a life or three for their New Year’s resolution by giving blood in 2013.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is challenging people to spare an hour of their time to donate blood.

The New Year’s resolution message comes at a time when there is a need to recruit new donors after a dramatic decline in the number of younger donors signing up in 2012.

The News has been working with NHSBT with the Give Blood This Christmas campaign, which aims to recruit 200 new donors by Christmas Eve.

And NHSBT is also recruiting 100,000 new donors in 100 days nationally, to counteract this drop and protect future blood stocks.

John Canning, NHSBT’s lead donor relations manager for the South East said: ‘New Year’s resolutions have become a bit cliche as people always set themselves up for big challenges they are unable to complete. Our challenge is a simple one.’
