A HOSPITAL has been hailed a ‘jewel in the crown’ of the town during a mayoral visit.
Mayor of Gosport Councillor Keith Gill, and mayoress Eira Gill, pictured left with staff, took a tour of Gosport War Memorial Hospital where they learnt more about the services provided by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Cllr Gill said: ‘The hospital is a jewel in the crown of the town.
‘As a local healthcare facility it is excellent. The range of provision is vast. All of the staff are welcoming.’
The trust provides mental health, learning disabilities, community, and social care services as well as specialist dental, podiatry, contraception and sexual health services, speech and language therapy and child and family therapy.
Area matron Toni Scammell said: ‘It was a pleasure to welcome the mayor and mayoress.
‘We’re proud of our staff who work tirelessly to deliver high quality, safe care that meets patients’ needs.’
Care for older people with acute mental health needs is provided in Dryad and Daedalus wards, and the trust provides physiotherapy as well as the array of other services available.
Older patients can be referred via their GP to the 20-bed Sultan ward, which also cares for inpatients transferred from acute hospitals where appropriate.
