PARENTS still anxious about their children having the measles, mumps and rubella vaccination are being told it is safe.

The message comes from Portsmouth GP Jon Price, after a national survey revealed some parents remain worried about possible side effects from the MMR jab.

The survey, which was carried out by Calpol, found 37 per cent of the 312 parents asked were scared about having their child immunised in case they develop autism – even though it was confirmed as not being linked.

Dr Price is a GP at the Osborne Practice, Osborne Road, Southsea, which has 11,000 patients registered.

He said: ‘The initial health scare about links to autism has been discredited.

‘The vast majority of parents in Portsmouth have their children immunised.

‘There is a bigger risk to children’s health if they are not immunised.’
