A PORTSMOUTH MP has vowed to help raise awareness about diabetes in the city.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt has pledged to support the Diabetes UK City of Portsmouth Voluntary Group after attending one of its monthly meetings.

Ms Mordaunt wanted to meet organisers and members to find out how she could help improve the lives of the 8,000 people with diabetes living in the city.

Ms Mordaunt said: ‘Having previously worked at Diabetes UK, I know how serious diabetes can be so I will continue to raise awareness of the condition within government and show my support by doing all I can to protect local services.’

The Portsmouth diabetes group meets on the third Monday of every month at Eastney Community Centre, from 10am to midday. Diabetics and their family and friends are invited to attend.
