TWO new appointments have been made at the city’s hospital trust.

Gill Walton has been appointed the head of midwifery at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Cherry West has been appointed chief operating officer.

Mrs Walton used to be the director of midwifery and general manager for women’s and sexual health in Oxford. She is also a member of the Royal College of Midwives, and is involved in the South Central Strategic Health Authority maternity programme and chairs the South Central Heads of Midwifery and Consultant Midwives Committee.

Mrs West has worked in the NHS for 30 years. She started as a clinician and then worked in the field of health services research. In 1999 she moved into operational management.

She joined the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as service manager in 2001.

She was involved in the planning and relocation of services from three sites to one new private finance initiative hospital.
