PART of the St James’ Hospital site has switched from being NHS-owned to another government body.

The ownership of 3.6 hectares (8.9 acres) in the south-east corner of the site, off Locksway Road, Milton, has transferred from NHS Property Services to the government’s Homes and Communities Agency

The changes are part of a process to focus community services at St Mary’s Community Health Campus in Milton Road, Milton, and keep the north-east section of the St James’ site for mental health care.

The site being transferred to the HCA is surplus to the NHS’s requirements and includes a number of empty buildings.

Milton ward councillor Ben Dowling said: ‘This is positive news for the campaign to keep Milton green, because the HCA has
a good record of listening to people’s needs.

‘It’s better than the land being sold to a property developer.’
