COUPLES in the Portsmouth area trying for a baby using IVF, will get help from a specialist centre in Hampshire.

The Portsmouth Fertility Centre, in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, is now working closely with the Complete Fertility Centre in Southampton.

It means people in Portsmouth will receive their initial NHS in vitro fertilisation (IVF) consultations and assessments at QA.

If NHS funded IVF treatment is required, then patients will visit the Southampton centre for their egg collection and embryo transfer.

Aftercare and follow up will then take place in Portsmouth.

Karen Ralph, fertility services manager, said: ‘We are delighted to work in partnership with colleagues at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and together be able to offer a full spectrum of NHS fertility services and treatments for patients.’

Patients living in the Portsmouth area can contact their GP for referral to the Portsmouth Fertility Centre for an appointment.
