A FORMER airline pilot provided training to hospital staff about how to deal with stress that could have a huge impact on the work they carry out.

Trevor Dale, a retired British Airways 747 training captain, spoke at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, about how to deal with stress situations surgeons may face when operating.

Professor Peter Brennan, consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon, said: ‘In the medical world we’re a long way behind the aviation industry in terms of recognising how human factors impact on performance, meaning things like fatigue, tiredness and emotions.

‘So Trevor and I have been looking at what affects our attention span.’
