Portsmouth council creates '˜crisis card' for potentially suicidal people

A NEW '˜crisis card' will be made to help potentially suicidal people find the relevant support they need.

Portsmouth City Council has created the card to tie in with today's World Suicide Prevention Day.

It will be a credit card-sized fold-out leaflet containing details of organisations who can help with some of the main issues leading to suicide.

The card will include contact details for the Samaritans, Healthwatch Portsmouth and Childline.

The council has also provided funding for new SafeTALK training which will help volunteers become '˜alert helpers'.

Councillor Matthew Winnington, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: '˜We know that taking early action can prevent individuals from reaching a point of unresolved crisis.

'˜Both of these latest initiatives from the Portsmouth Suicide Prevention Partnership are designed to do just that.'

The SafeTALK course is free. Email [email protected].
