MORE apprenticeship places are being offered by the trust that runs Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust – which is the second-largest employer in the city – piloted an apprenticeship scheme in January last year to help young people get their foot on to the career ladder.

The trust took on 18 apprentices in level 2 business and administration for 12 months.

And by the end of it 12 people – 70 per cent of the young workers – took on permanent employment with PHT.

Now the trust hopes to replicate that success.

This year 39 people have taken an admin placement.

And opportunities have been opened up in areas such as pathology, pharmacy, X-ray and audiology.

The admin apprenticeships are done through Fareport Training.
