CLINICAL research nurses are to be celebrated at a regional event being hosted at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Around 100 research nurses, some from as far away as Cornwall, are to visit the hospital next week for the Celebrating Clinical Research Nurses event, being held as part of a programme organised by the National Institute for Health Research and Department of Health.

Being hosted on Tuesday, the event will celebrate the care nurses bring to the patient experience of participating in research, highlight the leadership nurses bring to the delivery of research and mark the innovation nurses bring to the clinical research field.

Emma Munro, lead research nurse at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs QA, said: ‘This is a
really big event for us and it became over-subscribed very quickly.

‘It’s great for the hospital to be hosting it here and it shows just how supportive the trust is towards clinical research and the significant role nurses play in ensuring patients take part in clinical trials.

‘Clinical research trials are so very important because they provide us with new treatments.’
