POMPEY’S David Nugent goes in for a monster tackle to show fans they can kick the smoking habit.
The striker joined Kanu and John Utaka who are backing the PompeyQuit programme which aims to help supporters give the evil weed the boot for good.
The PompeyQuit team will be on hand at Fratton Park on Saturday to give smokers advice and support.
It is part of the NHS’s ongoing campaign to reduce the number of people smoking across the city – which has one of the highest smoking rates among adults in the region.
PompeyQuit clinical manager Sian Howells said: ‘Stopping smoking is the single best thing that anyone can do to improve their own health, as well as the health of those around them.
‘We are grateful to Portsmouth Football Club for working with us to encourage football supporters to stop smoking.
‘We hope fans who smoke realise that this is about helping people who are interested make healthy choices to improve their lives.’
The PompeyQuit team, from Solent Healthcare, will be in the Victory Suite at Fratton Park from midday, ahead of Pompey’s match against Leeds United.
The club’s own health trainers will also be helping to talk to fans on Saturday.
Commercial director of Pompey Lucius Peart said: ‘We are delighted to continue supporting the PompeyQuit campaign.
‘Results from previous years, and from the range of other health lead initiatives we support, show that the players’ involvement in the advertising material creates greater awareness.
‘That leads to higher response rates from the public and therefore better results for the promotion.’
