A YEAR of hospice fundraising is kicking off with a sponsored run.

The Race with Rowan event has two courses – 5km or 10km – with money raised going to The Rowans Hospice.

The sponsored run is open to all ages and abilities, and takes place on Saturday, March 1, starting and finishing at the Portsmouth Watersports Centre, in Eastern Road.

Sophie Gunner, fundraiser at the hospice, said: ‘This event will appeal to most people, from family fun-runners to the more seasoned athlete, with a choice of two routes.

‘Whether this is your first running event or you want to improve your personal best, this race will be great fun and will help raise vital funds for The Rowans Hospice.

‘It is also a perfect opportunity to use this event as a warm-up for longer distances like the Brighton Marathon or Great South Run which we have places for later in the year.’

All runners will receive a medal with prizes for the first to cross the finishing line.
