THERE were anxious gasps from youngsters as they witnessed Santa Claus being rescued from a tower so he could attend a Christmas party.
The staged event unfolded during a bash that was organised for children at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
Firefighters from Cosham fire station, along with pupils from South Downs College, collected money to host the party for 29 youngsters.
Part of the fire station was transformed into a grotto, where the rescued Father Christmas handed out presents.
Entertainment included a magician, face painter and lots of food.
Sharon Day, 31, of Waterlooville, had brought along daughter Cordelia, two, who suffers from epilepsy.
Sharon said: ‘It’s lovely the fire service threw this party and we were grateful for the invite.
‘It’s tough on Cordelia and the family at times, so we really appreciated this break.’
Firefighter Stuart Vince helped organise the party.
He said: ‘We wanted to spread Christmas cheer and it was great to see children come along.’
