A DEVOTED wife is taking on three gruelling runs to raise money for a charity which supported her husband.

Sharon Thomas, 43, said her family’s world was rocked by husband Joe’s blood cancer diagnosis in October 2014.

After tough chemotherapy and radiotherapy the 41-year-old lorry driver is now in remission but Sharon is continuing to fundraise for Myeloma UK to try and prevent other families having to go through the same thing.

Sharon, of Saltmarsh Lane, Hayling, said: ‘It all began when Joe started saying he had a bad back.

‘He is quite a strong man and rarely complains so I knew it was serious.

‘He went to the doctors and then hospital. It was such a shock when he was diagnosed. It completely rocked our world.

‘But I simply can’t praise the NHS enough – from our surgery on Hayling to the hospitals in Portsmouth and Southampton.

‘They were just outstanding. Joe is in remission now.’

Sharon is holding a fundraising coffee morning and has thrown herself into training for three runs.

The first is the Littlehampton 10K in a few weeks, then Winchester half marathon at the end of September and the Great South Run in October.

Sharon added: ‘It has been a really tough two years. Myeloma UK is really important to me and my husband and I want to spread and raise awareness.

‘I’ve called the runs my Trio of Fun – even though they are going to be hard!’

The coffee morning is on November 5 from 10am until midday at the Lifeboat Inn, Sea Front, Hayling.

There will be a tombola and a raffle with prices from the local businesses and delicious cakes to eat.

It will be the second year running Sharon has taken part in the Great South Run.

In total she has raised £1,500 for the charity. To sponsor Sharon go to justgiving.com/fundraising/TRIO-OF-FUN
