Slimming World consultant Jo Carey has won a ruby award for her work in helping to tackle obesity in the area.
Jo, who runs the Gosport Slimming World group at the new venue in Gosport Borough Football Club was delighted to receive the award for inspiring dozens of people in the local community to start losing weight and to improve their health.
The accolade sees Jo, who lost three and a half stone with Slimming World herself, become a Ruby Consultant.
The award was created in 2009 to celebrate Slimming World’s 40th anniversary and is given to all consultants who welcome 40 new members to their group in one month. This year is Slimming World’s 45th or sapphire anniversary.
She said: ‘I’m delighted to have achieved this award. Rubies are known for being beautiful but they’re also one of the hardest natural gems, and that’s what I’m most proud of because I’m taking this award as recognition of how hard I work to support every single one of my members to achieve their weight loss goals.
‘I truly believe I have the best, most rewarding job in the world – there’s no better feeling than helping someone to feel good about themselves – so winning this award really is the (ruby red) cherry on top!’
Gosport ranks sixth in the country for obesity and Jo says lots of people want to lose weight but they often don’t know how or where to turn for help.
‘I know the thought of joining a group can be daunting, especially when you don’t feel very confident, but everyone’s welcome and we have a lot of fun,’ she added.
Slimming World members follow an eating plan, which encourages them to make small, easy changes to the way they shop, cook and eat so they make healthier choices and lose weight without ever going hungry or feeling deprived.
Members also share recipes, advice and ideas for coping with challenges.
Jo’s slimming group meets every Monday at 9am, 11am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm at Gosport Borough Football Club.
