PATIENTS and visitors to a hospital were cheered by a performance of Christmas carols.

Spirit of the South ladies’ harmony chorus used the atrium at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, as its stage on Saturday.

Sandra Strawn, from the chorus, said: ‘What touches the heart more at Christmas than the sound of carols and Christmas songs beautifully sung and floating up in the air?

‘The atrium is just magical and we had the most wonderful time singing there.

‘We raised £40 for The Rowans Trust, QA’s chosen charity.’

In the morning Spirit of the South had been invited to sing at the annual Christmas fair at Merchistoun Hall, Horndean.

Mrs Strawn added: ‘Everyone was so welcoming.

‘It was a pleasure to sing for them and we all bought some lovely Christmas presents.’

‘Our chorus is made up of ladies of all ages and we have been lucky enough to sing at so many brilliant events over the year.

‘We are really excited about what the new year will bring.

‘We wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas.’

The ladies meet each Tuesday at Park Community School, Middle Park Way, Leigh Park, from 7.30pm to 10pm. To book them for your event, or join, call (023) 9264 1997 or (023) 9245 1220.
