MORE than 100 people turned out to hear how they can help eradicate polio once and for all.
The Rotary Club of Havant invited guests to a talk by Niall Fry, a member of the independent monitoring board of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) polio eradication programme.
The aim of the event, at Havant’s Public Service Plaza, was to convince businesses to donate to the programme so that it may be wiped out in the same way smallpox was in 1980.
Mr Fry explained that it is still in Afghanistan, northern Nigeria and Pakistan, due to the geography of the countries, their religious make-up and conflict.
But it has also resurfaced in Syria due to the war and poverty.
