THE meals on wheels service is aiming to provide good, healthy, and nutritional food over Christmas.
Run by Hampshire County Council, it helps 1,500 people, but there is still time for others to sign up should they wish to enjoy the meals.
Councillor Liz Fairhurst, who is in charge of adult social care and public health for the county council, said: ‘Good nutrition and hydration play a crucial role in helping people stay healthy and independent.
‘A decreasing appetite or reduced ability to buy and prepare healthy foods can mean that older people don’t get enough essential vitamins, minerals and fibre, which can contribute to feeling generally unwell or exacerbate some illnesses.’
Residents can have meals such as Cumberland sausage and mash, and lemon sponge with custard delivered to them.
Anyone aged 55 years or over who finds it difficult to prepare their own food can order Meals on Wheels from one to seven days per week. Call 01962 779338.
