HUNDREDS of people are expected to join the fight against dementia and take part in a memory walk.

Around 400 people have signed up to take part in the walk organised by the Alzheimer’s Society – and there’s still time to take part.

People can choose from a 3km (just under two-mile) route or a longer 10km (just over six-mile) walk, with both starting and finishing in Castle Field, Southsea.

Portsmouth City Brass Band will be performing to warm up and support the crowds.

New figures released by the society show there are more than 121,500 people living across the south east with a form of dementia, and almost 2,300 are based in Portsmouth.

Organisers hope the walk will raise £20,000, and the money will provide support services such as dementia cafes and carer support services. To find out more visit
