During his trip to the hospital, where he unveiled a plaque for the new fracture liaison service, Craig praised staff.

‘The hospital is absolutely massive,’ he said.

‘The staff are absolutely glorious. Everyone has a smile on their face. They are really passionate.’

The specialist service was launched at QA by the National Osteoporosis Society.

The service aims to prevent the pain and suffering caused by osteoporosis, with a target of helping 300 patients a month and saving the NHS hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Anyone over the age of 50 who breaks a bone in the Portsmouth area will now be assessed by the unit for osteoporosis.
