OPINIONS are being asked for on improving counselling facilities in Portsmouth by people who use the services.

The survey is asking for opinions on three areas:

n Allowing other health professionals alongside GPs to refer patients.

n See if some people would benefit from being referred to a specialist team to ensure they get the right treatment.

n Look at the benefits of providing counselling outside of GP surgeries.

NHS Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council has a joint integrated commissioning unit (ICU), which is making the changes on how to service is accessed and run.

Senior project manager for the ICU Stephen Corrigan said: ‘We are not advocating any reduction in the cash the NHS spends on counselling services – and we also intend it to remain free for all.

‘We want to make sure we make the most of the money that we do spend so that people receive a service that they value and which meets their needs.’
