THIS WEEK IN 1984: Give me the facts says worried mum

Have your say

THREE was certainly the lucky number for talented Annette Bradford as she scooped another gong at The News’ Hair and Beauty Awards.

The prestigious awards were held on Saturday at Portsmouth Guildhall and scores of stylists, beauticians and therapists glammed up for the occasion.

The awards are now in their fourth year and Annette has been an award winner for the past three.

In 2012, Annette was awarded cosmetic therapist of the year and then last year, when the best bridal and special occasion category was launched, she took the top award for doing what she does best – bridal hair.

This year, the kind and caring lady made it a hat-trick and won the best bridal and special occasion category again for the work she does at her salon, Elegance Bridal Coiffure in Waterlooville.

Annette said: ‘I’m gobsmacked, absolutely speechless. I really didn’t expect it. I didn’t have any inclination. There are so many good stylists in my category this year, I didn’t think my luck would carry me,’

For her friend and model Channon Cail, 18, from Paulsgrove, it’s more than luck that secured Annette her place at the top.

Channon, who was supporting Annette at the awards, said: ‘I couldn’t ask for a better lady to model for. She really is amazing and very talented.’

Annette’s salon, in Grassmere Way, Waterlooville, offers a tranquil haven of calm and serenity for any bride-to-be on her big day.

The salon only opens to the bridal party so Annette can give her undivided attention to the bride.

The tables were turned on Annette on Saturday as she was the focus of the attention.

Annette said: ‘It is brilliant, I really am over the moon. When you have an award, it gets you known. It is lovely.’

Dominic Belo of Benjamin James Hair Vision in Chichester was the runner-up.

The News will be featuring a selection of winners every day this week.

London to Portsmouth for this award winner

TRAINING in London has set this year’s junior stylist of the year in good stead.

Harry Bailey, 22, who cuts hair at The Terrace, in Southsea, said he was surprised to win the accolade at his first ever awards ceremony.

The dedicated and committed hairdresser trained at Total Harbour Academy, in London, and moved to Portsmouth for the job in January.

Harry, who now lives in Stubbington Avenue, North End, said: ‘I’m proud. I didn’t expect it at all.

‘I want to thank the guys at The Terrace for giving me this opportunity.’

Ryan is an ace apprentice

HE’S only been qualified for six months and this talented barber has already built himself a reputation as being one of the best.

Ryan Searle, from The Library Barbers Club of Southsea, won the apprentice of the year award at The News’ Hair and Beauty Awards.

The 21-year-old from Havant finished an intensive course at the London School of Barbering in January and his talent is already being noticed.

Ryan was nominated for the award by his boss Josh Carroll-Smith so the win was a surprise.

‘It was quite a shock,’ he said.

‘I’m over the moon.’
