MORE than 80 per cent of patients in Portsmouth are seen by an ambulance within eight minutes.

The figures released by South Central Ambulance Service show the trust reaches 999 calls in the eight-minute time frame 84.7 per cent of the time – this is higher than a government benchmark of 75 per cent.

And 98.4 per cent of patients were seen within 19 minutes – higher than the target, which is 95 per cent.

Operations director Mark Ainsworth said: ‘We are delivering a rapid service to the patients who call for our service in this area.

‘We pride ourselves in reaching patients as quickly as possible and more importantly that our staff deliver the most appropriate care for the patients they attend.’
