WORK is well under way on building Havant’s new £3.7m community hospital.

Officials at NHS Hampshire have pencilled in an opening date of next December for Oak Park Community Clinic, which will offer outpatient clinics and diagnostics, such as X-ray and MRI.

Construction work started at the end of August on transforming the Oak Park Children’s Centre – a £4m facility in Lavant Drive that opened in 2006 – and building a campus of healthcare facilities.

A new extension will be built and the building’s interior – currently only 20 per cent of which is used for clinical purposes – will be refurbished.

The facility’s children services, which have temporarily moved into one section of the building while construction is under way, will move into their new dedicated home on the site from next May.

A new car park has also opened across the road from the centre with 42 spaces. This has allowed the old car park to be used for the extension and put in the hard-standing for a mobile MRI unit.
