AS winter draws in, don’t be tempted to snuggle up with an electric blanket until it’s been tested.

Unsafe electric blankets account for more than 1,000 house fires a year and there will be free testing at venues across Havant by Trading Standards this month.

The first is at Waterlooville Fire Station on October 9. The next is on October 18 at Havant Public Service Plaza as part of the Being Independent in Later Life information day and the last is at the URC Hall, Hayling on October 29.

Blankets over 10 years old, frayed fabric, creasing or folding and worn electric cords can all be factors in a blanket becoming unsafe for use.

Only people who have made an appointment will be seen. Please call 01962 833 358 to book.
