ALL week The News, will focus on different aspects of healthcare available in the Portsmouth area.

The aim is to let readers know what options they have and when it should be used.

People will then be given the chance to fill out a survey to help Clinical Commissioning Groups, who buy in health services and help them see what patients think.

There are three CCGs covering the area – Portsmouth, Fareham and Gosport and South Eastern Hampshire.

Dr Barbara Rushton, clinical chairman of SEH CCG, said: ‘The three have been working closely with Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust to relieve as much pressure as possible on the emergency department at QA.

‘We hope readers will complete the survey to give us a greater understanding of how people value some of the services available or indeed their awareness of them.’

Editor of The News Mark Waldron said: ‘We have reported, for some time now, the pressures faced by the A&E department at QA.

‘As a local newspaper, we want to do what we can to help educate people about other NHS services, so patients are seen in the right place, quickly, and in the best setting.

‘Each day this week, we will be focusing on different elements of care available to us, and when they should be used.

‘We hope people take on board these messages, to help take away some pressure to NHS staff, and so you are seen quickly and with the best outcomes.’
