PEOPLE are being reminded there is plenty of choice available if you need medical help over the up-and-coming bank holiday.

The next bank holiday is on Monday, August 26, and NHS Portsmouth is advising people to choose well.

Patients are being advised to only call

999 or visit A&E for emergencies such as loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, breathing difficulties and serious accidents.

For minor injuries and illnesses, people are advised to go to any of the three walk-in centres:

· St Mary’s Treatment Centre, Milton Road, Portsmouth

· Minor Injuries Unit in Gosport War Memorial Hospital, Bury Road, Gosport

· Minor Injuries Unit in Petersfield Community Hospital, Swan Street, Petersfield

If your doctor’s surgery is closed, then call the GP out-of-hours service on 0845 050 8345 between 8.30am to 9.30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 9.30pm on weekends.

Pharmacists can also give expert and confidential advice on common minor illnesses such as coughs, colds, headaches and cystitis, as well as medicines and emergency contraception.
