Wife to do Portsmouth charity walk for husband with dementiaÂ

LOVING wife Caroline Dowlen is taking on a charity walk for a cause close to her heart.

The 58-year-old has registered for the Alzheimer's Society's Portsmouth Memory Walk and is urging others to do the same.

Caroline's husband Tony was diagnosed with dementia five years ago and she is doing next month's walk for him.

She said: '˜The first time I took part in Portsmouth Memory Walk was a couple of years ago with Tony.

'˜He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease five years ago at the age of 58 and sadly he's unable to take part in it this year.

'˜I'm doing the walk because of the journey we've been on and to help raise money so people don't have to go through what we're going through in the future.'

Nearly 1,900 people have signed up for the walk in Southsea, on Saturday, October 6.

Last year, £143,000 was raised to fund research and provide support for people with the condition.

In Portsmouth, there are 2,247 people living with dementia.
