ENTRIES for a women’s run to raise money for a cancer charity are now open.

This year’s Cancer Research UK Race for Life takes place on July 20, in Southsea, and women can either sign up for a 5k course or 10k.

Fiona Miller, events manager, said: ‘We’re calling on Portsmouth’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.

‘We know how committed Portsmouth women can be when they really make up their minds to do something.

‘We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.

‘Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun.

‘Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.’

Last year 7,624 women took part, and raised £412,749.

This year organisers need 7,900 women and girls to stride out again to help raise £440,000.

Money raised goes towards cancer research.
