YOUNGSTERS from Fareham and Gosport went to a festival to find out more about caring.

Hundreds of people attended the Young Carers Festival, organised by The Children’s Society and YMCA Fairthorne Group, near Southampton.

They took part in a live phone-in debate with Sarah Teather, the children and families minister.

And the youngsters at the festival also enjoyed activities such as canoeing and abseiling to fairground rides, a football tournament and a ‘chill-out’ zone.

Bob Reitemeier, chief executive of The Children’s Society, said: ‘We’re delighted a minister took the time to talk to young carers. It is essential that their voices are heard at the highest level.’
