Hear the story of cinema usherettes

Many of the poignant stories behind Portsmouth's cinema usherettes will be revealed tonight at an event at No 6 Cinema in the Historic Dockyard.

Visual arts lecturer Eva Balogh will talk about her research into the once-glamorous world of cinema usherettes and the part they played in previous generations of film-goers.

She will present her exhibition in the cinema’s foyer and will be showing the 1935 comedy film about an usherette, The Good Fairy.

Tomorrow there will be a live podcast from stand up comedian Seann Walsh, who will then introduce a screening of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

The events, which start at 7pm, are organised by No 6 Cinema in partnership with University of Portsmouth and Film Hub South East.
