A WOMAN has spoken of her pain and disgust after her family’s beloved pet cat was shot and killed.

Kathryn Evans received a phone call from her husband with the shocking news that their cat Pike had been found dead on the front drive with what looked to be a puncture wound.

Mrs Evans said: ‘Why would anyone want to hurt such a calm and beautiful creature?

‘He sought out affection from everybody, he would insist on being loved.’

It was only on inspecting the animal’s injury that the scale of what had occurred became clear.

Mrs Evans believes Pike’s wound was from an air rifle pellet, which had tore into him and caused substantial internal bleeding. The velocity of the pellet caused the young male cat’s death.

Mrs Evans, of Cow Lane, Sidlesham, near Chichester, said: ‘This has torn a huge chunk from my family’s heart.

‘My 15-year-old son named all of our cats and is so angry as to why someone would want to hurt such an innocent animal.’

Pike was a little over a year old, and having been a rescue cat, had taken some time to develop.

Mrs Evans helped nurse him back to full health.

‘If anyone has any information on what happened to Pike, then please step forward. Whoever did this needs to be brought to justice,’ she added. Call Sussex police 101 if you can help.
