THE Fire Fighters Charity is asking the public to help it celebrate its 70th anniversary and show their support by giving to a collection next Friday.

Fundraisers will be joined at Sainsbury’s in Portsmouth on May 3 by firefighters promoting community safety.

Kerry James, regional fundraiser for the charity said: ‘We are celebrating our 70th anniversary and staging various activities throughout the year to raise awareness of the charity and encourage people to support our cause and find out more about what we do.

‘The Fire Fighters Charity is available for all members of the fire service community during their times of need, assisting thousands of individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.’

It costs £9m every year to meet the needs of the charity’s beneficiaries, and with no government funding, it is reliant upon donations from the general public and the fire community.
