IT is finally the time of year where Red Nose Day fundraisers spring into action across the country.
Here at the Portchester Townswomen’s Guild we are no exception to this.
With Red Nose Day taking place on Friday, March 24, we wanted to make sure that we would be doing our bit for such a worthy cause.
Quite a few different ideas were thrown around regarding what we could do to help raise money.
In the end we settled on hosting a cake sale – I had been given a hamper with flour, sugar and other ingredients so decided to put them to good use.
Baking is something that a lot of us at the Portchester Townswomen’s Guild are rather passionate about, so it would seem to be a match made in heaven.
The photo that you see is from a previous event that we held; cake sales always go down a treat at the Townswomen’s Guild.
The inspiration behind it all dates right back to the Townswomen’s Guild’s annual meeting, which took place in August last year.
Each year, the Townswomen’s Guild chooses a charity to fundraise for over the coming 12 months – it was decided that the Red Nose Day Appeal would be the chosen charity for the year.
Of course, Townswomen’s Guilds across the country also do a number of fundraising events for other charities in their local area, but it allows us to concentrate our efforts on a much bigger scale.
So far, we have managed to raise £250 – and that’s before we have even held the cake sale itself!
We have done this through selling a large number of different knitted dolls and animals.
If we were able to make a total of £300, that would be absolutely wonderful.
Nationally speaking, the Townswomen’s Guild has raised more than £7,000 for Red Nose Day.
We expect that total to skyrocket over the coming days, as this is when all the major fundraising will be taking place.
The Red Nose Day is a truly fantastic cause to be raising money for, and we are incredibly proud to be fundraising for them.
All of our delicious cookies and cakes will be up for sale at the Portchester Community Centre in Westlands Grove, PO16 9DV, from 10am until 4pm.
All proceeds will go to Comic Relief and you will get some fantastic cakes for your money.
