A SOUTHSEA curry house is in the running to be named the healthiest in the country '“Â and today they share their secrets. Â
Albert Road's Akash has reached the finals of the English Curry Awards for '˜Healthy curryÂ provider', and the winner will be revealed on Monday.Â
The curry house first recently garnered media attention afterÂ posting healthy cooking videos on social media. Faz Ahmed, the restaurant's manager, said: '˜We certainly didn't enter, but I believe our recent campaigns in educating people about healthyÂ Indian food must've been seen by the English curry awards.
'˜Our recent healthy cooking lessonsÂ with the university of Portsmouth, Portsmouth college and Priory school were seen all over the media and social networks.'
Akash keeps its curry dishes healthy by reducing the levels of sugar, salt, cream and oil at the request of the customers, as well as by starting a partnership with Better Gym Portsmouth.
FazÂ has high hopes that the restaurant will win in the '˜Healthy curry provider' category, saying: '˜We have sent strong evidence of our campaigning of healthier food which included cookingÂ lessons, radio shows and healthy menu and advice, which giveÂ customers healthier options. This demonstrates our passion in allowing people to eat more nutritious Indian food without feeling so guilty.
'There are healthy options in Indian restaurant such as tandoori chicken, shashliks, tikkaÂ chicken or lamb all high in protein as well as dall. We use a lot of vegetables like spinach, aubergine andÂ okra.'
The English Curry Awards are being held in Dudley.
