Hill Head Coastguard warns people on cold water danger

A COASTGUARD team has sent out a warning after two calls this week about people jumping into water to rescue dogs.

Hill Head Rescue Coastguard team tweeted its safety advice yesterday after it was reported to them that someone had jumped into Fareham Creek to help a dog.

Their tweet said: ‘Second time this week we have learned of a member of the public jumping into the water, this time in Fareham Creek, to help a dog.

‘Although this may seem heroic, it’s very dangerous.

‘Cold water shock takes seconds to effect.

‘Call 999 HM Coastguard, we are trained and equipped for this.’
