History of Portsmouth church site goes back to 11th century

My recent picture here of St Mary's Church, Portsea, jogged Martin Halsey's memory about several postcards he inherited when his mother died.

Looking through them he found another black and white line drawing of ‘The First Portsea Parish Church (St Mary’s)’.

Martin says: ‘It is one of what appears to be a series of postcards by M Snape of views of Portsmouth. I have a number more from the series, the last one I have being number ‘40’.

‘I also found a view of ‘Copnor Crossing’ before it was a bridge. Handwritten on the back is ‘As it was in 1906’.
