RADIO host Simon Clarke was put to the test as he was asked to abseil down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower.
Wave 105 presenter Simon traded his studio microphones for a harness to take on the challenge of climbing down the side of the 300ft tower. He said: ‘It was without doubt the most scary thing I have ever done. When I was standing at the top looking over the edge my knees were shaking and I genuinely didn’t think I was going to be able to do it.
‘But after I’d made that first step it felt amazing to be part of such a unique group – fewer than 60 people have ever abseiled down the tower and now I’m one of them.’
The ambitious stunt was part of Cash for Kids Month, a four-week fundraising project in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust which asks Simon and other men across the area to ‘Man Up’ in aid of the charity.
The organisation hopes to raise £25,000 from the events to create a teenage cancer patient room at the Southampton General Hospital.
Listeners are invited to join the presenter at the coming sponsored activities, including playing cricket at the Rose Bowl or driving laps in a race car at Thruxton.
