Hollie, 16, gets ready to Brave the Shave and lose all her hair

Hollie McCullen, 16, from Fareham, is taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Brave the Shave Campaign and is due to have her head shaved on August 5.

Hollie’s initial fundraising target was £300. But she has smashed this target and has raised nearly £500 already.

Hollie has decided to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust

In order for her to do this, Hollie has dyed her hair a natural colour.

Hollie’s strong motivation to take part comes from watching her grandparents suffer from cancer and she feels very strongly about Macmillan as she has seen the good things that the organisation can do for people.

Hollie said: ‘I’d like to do more charity events. It makes me feel good about myself.’

Hollie’s father, Nigel McCullen, said that he is extremely proud of his daughter and he spoke of his excitement for the future, saying that it ‘might spur her on to do other things’.

He said: ‘Initially I was reluctant for her to do it as being only 16, and a girl with lovely hair, I thought the effect that this may have on her could be quite dramatic; especially as she has only just left school and starts college in September.’

Brave the Shave aims to raise awareness of the emotional struggle caused by the change of appearance that many cancer sufferers go through.
