GOSPORT residents are being urged to hold a picnic in aid of the Royal British Legion.
The Poppy Picnic is set to coincide with Armed Forces Day on June 27 and people are being encouraged to host a community picnic, a sports day or friendly bake-off amongst friends and family.
Cllr Roger Allen, armed forces champion for Gosport Borough Council and Royal British Legion member said: ‘With Stanley Park and Walpole Park just two of Gosport’s great parks, and its glorious coastline with views of the Isle of Wight, there’s plenty of space and no reason for anyone to miss out on enjoying a Poppy Picnic.
‘It gives everyone the chance to have a great time whilst raising funds for an extremely worthwhile charity.’
Clare Peppiatt, the legion’s community fundraiser for Hampshire, said: ‘We’re hoping for as many people in Gosport as possible to pull out their picnic rug, pack their hamper and join in. Invite friends and family along to a feast of sandwiches, fizzy pop and cakes knowing that your fundraising will make a real difference to the lives of servicemen and women, veterans.’
