Southsea firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to get up and cut the wires before bringing the sign down.

They had to wait for the power to be turned off first and used gloves as a precaution.

It was badly damaged by the weather and will need to be replaced with a new one.

Firefighter Matt Castleton said: ‘The sign was hanging by some wires.

‘We had to wait for the power to be cut off first because the sign had some LED lights in it.’
