En garde! New school sport is having the desired classroom effect

Infants had an excellent outdoor treat to return to on their first day back at school yesterday.

After enduring weeks of cold weather for most of the festive break, youngsters at Trosnant Infants in Leigh Park had fun playing outdoors and painting beneath a specially-built canopy.

Boys and girls were brimming full of enthusiasm as soon as they set foot inside the new structure.

Ottis Pearce, five, summed up the general atmosphere when he said: 'I've missed my friends lots and my teachers.'

Phoebie Rich, four, a keen artist, added: 'I wanted to come back to school so I could paint a picture.'

Deputy head Kate Keller said she was delighted with the strong attendance and positive attitudes from children and teachers.

She said: 'They were all really keen to get back, see their friends, have fun and enjoy learning.'
