A MAN died after his mobility scooter fell from a walkway which had ‘severely decayed’, an inquest has heard.

John Withers died when his scooter plunged down 4m after crashing through the walkway’s glass panels.

It happened when the 82-year-old grandfather was at an NHS medical centre in Fareham in September 2012.

Mr Withers had been at a routine appointment having his leg ulcers checked.

The inquest, held at the Portsmouth Guildhall, heard the barriers on the walkway were affected by white rot decay. The hearing continues.
